Understanding Grief and Bereavement
Most people will experience loss at some point in their lives. Grief is a natural reaction to any form of loss, while bereavement refers specifically to the grief that follows the death of a loved one.
Bereavement and grief can bring a wide range of emotions—from deep sadness to anger. The way each person adapts to loss is unique, shaped by their background, beliefs, and the relationship they shared with the one they lost.

Grief is not limited to sorrow. It may also involve guilt, yearning, anger, or regret. These emotions can be surprising in their intensity or gentleness, and often confusing. One person may grieve a difficult relationship, while another may mourn a loved one who passed from illness yet feel relief that suffering has ended.

At Dignity Hospice, we understand that every journey through grief is deeply personal. Our team offers compassionate support and guidance to families and loved ones, helping them navigate the path toward healing after a profound loss.

Whether you need someone outside the family for a heartfelt conversation or more in‑depth counseling, we are here for you—providing care, comfort, and dignity every step of the way.

Medications, Medical Supplies & Equipment
A central question in hospice care is: “How does one care for an individual with a serious illness or multiple serious illnesses in a home setting?”
Many patients require extensive support, which often includes durable medical equipment alongside medications and supplies. Having reliable access to these resources ensures patients can receive care in the comfort of their chosen environment.
Once a patient is enrolled in hospice, one of our nurses conducts an initial assessment of symptoms, pain levels, and overall needs. This evaluation guides the provision of medical supplies and equipment to maximize comfort and quality of life. Deliveries are typically arranged within 24 hours, with additional items provided as needed. The assessment is shared with the entire hospice team, including our medical director, who may recommend further medications or equipment beyond the standard comfort kit.
Importantly, families need not worry about the financial burden. Medicare, Medicaid, and most private insurance plans cover 100% of hospice-related medical equipment and supplies tied to the patient’s terminal diagnosis. Our team coordinates directly with insurers to ensure seamless coverage, so patients and families can focus entirely on care and comfort rather than costs.

Family Counseling
At Dignity Hospice, our social workers provide emotional and practical support for patients and families. Working alongside nurses, physicians, aides, and chaplains, they help create a calm, balanced environment that honors both physical and emotional needs.
Social workers guide families through the end‑of‑life journey—offering counseling, education, and reassurance about what to expect. They listen, advocate, and communicate concerns to the hospice team, ensuring every voice is heard.
With compassion and a calming presence, they help patients and families find comfort, understanding, and dignity during this important time.
